Dim sum has always been a meal designed for sharing. Whether it's a weekend family gathering or a brunch catch-up, there's something special about selecting bite-sized dishes served in steaming bamboo baskets.

For many Malaysians, however, one important question often comes first: "Is dim sum halal?"

The answer is yes, provided it is made with halal-certified ingredients and prepared in a kitchen that strictly prevents cross-contamination.

Today, more restaurants are making authentic Chinese cuisine accessible to everyone without compromising on tradition. At Tea Garden, we're proud to serve JAKIM-certified halal dim sum, prepared with the same care, quality, and craftsmanship that have guided us for over 21 years.

Understanding JAKIM Halal Certification for Dim Sum

Finding halal dim sum today is much easier than it was years ago, but it's still important to know what to look for.

The most reliable indicator is JAKIM halal certification, which gives diners confidence that the food has met Malaysia's recognized halal standards; from ingredient sourcing and kitchen practices to food preparation and handling.

Halal certification goes beyond omitting non-halal ingredients; it evaluates the entire food preparation ecosystem:

  • Sourcing: Verifying that all meats, poultry, seafood, and seasonings come from certified halal suppliers.
  • Kitchen Hygiene: Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and equipment separation.
  • Handling: Ensuring strict protocols during prep, steaming, and serving to prevent cross-contamination.

For Muslim families, this assurance means they can enjoy Chinese Malaysian cuisine with greater peace of mind. For everyone else, it's a sign of consistent quality, transparency, and disciplined food preparation.

Good food tastes even better when everyone at the table can enjoy it. We believe authentic Hainanese-inspired flavors should be something everyone can enjoy together, which is why our dim sum is prepared according to strict halal requirements while staying true to the craftsmanship behind traditional recipes.
